- S27=48 (disable V.42 detect phase)
- S54.5=1 (disable the 3429 symbol rate)
- S56.7=1 (disable V.FC)
- S54.7=1 (disable V.34 by disabling V.8)

- One possible catch is that USR changed the S-register settings in later
- Sportsters; if you have such a modem, these suggestions won't help. <sigh>
